Personal History: Born to a family of carnival workers, Trowa was separated from them at a very young age. So young, in fact, that he has no knowledge of what his name was or even if they are alive. He presumes they are not, for his own sanity. At around the age of four, he stumbled into a camp of soldiers who were opposed to the Alliance and was nearly killed. All he’d wanted was the warm fire and maybe some food. The captain of the group took pity on him and allowed him to stay with them, but refused to give him a name. If they didn’t name him, they thought it would be easier to leave him at some random orphanage, but they never did. He grew up learning to read and write from them, as well as how to work on mobile suits and other machines. At roughly the age of ten, he found a girl who seemed to be his age who called herself Midi. Trowa convinced the captain to let her join their group, thinking that she was like him, alone without biological family. Instead, Midi was a spy, and thanks to her the soldiers died in battle. Trowa and Midi were the only survivors.

After the deaths of the unit, the only family he’d ever known, Trowa made his way into space to the L3 cluster. Working as a mechanic known as No-Name, he found his way into the employ of the Barton Foundation. Working on a revolutionary new mobile suit called a Gundam, the son of the head of the foundation took a liking to him. That man, the original Trowa Barton, was fully in favor of the original spirit of Operation Meteor: crushing the military might of Earth regardless of the collateral damage caused by the fighting. One of the other mechanics had family planetside, and got into an argument with that Mr Barton one night, ending with Barton being shot and killed. The head of the gundam project in the L3 cluster, Doktor S, had been witness, and was not so secretly pleased that his boss’s son was now dead as he did not want to cause so much death and destruction. No-Name, being in the wrong place at the right time, also was a witness to the death of Trowa. When the mechanic who had fired the shot turned his gun on the young teen, No-Name offered to take the name Trowa Barton, as well as his position as the future pilot of the gundam. Since it meant not having to tell anything to his boss, Doktor S agreed, and the gundam pilot Trowa Barton was born.

When Operation Meteor launched, Trowa took his missions seriously. He attacked every Alliance base he could with heavy artillery using the gundam HeavyArms. When not in the field of battle, he hid himself in a travelling circus as a clown, and the target of the knife thrower. The knife thrower, Catherine, thought that Trowa reminded her of the little brother killed in the same bombing that took her parents, and took him under her wing. Even once she found out about him being a gundam pilot, meaning he was globally recognized as a terrorist, she did not turn on him.

Trowa left the circus, traveling around the world with one of the other gundam pilots by the name of Heero Yuy. It was a tour of redemption for Yuy, with Trowa along for the ride. Eventually, the pilots were outed as colonial rebels, and publicly disavowed by the very people they had tried to protect. Leaving Earth once more, Trowa made the decision to infiltrate the enemy, now known as Oz. He got himself stationed on the Lunar Base, where fellow pilots Duo and Wufei ended up as prisoners. The creators of the gundams, the same five men who had first invented mobile suits, were also under the control of Oz and being forced to invent newer and more powerful suits that could stand up to the gundams, and be used for galactic domination. Around this time, pilot Heero Yuy raided the lunar base, and Trowa was the one to capture him.

Using the two newest suits created by the scientists “lovingly” nicknamed the Mad Five, Trowa is ordered to choose one of the now three captive pilots to help stop the fifth member of their group who has gone on a rampage. Taking Heero with him, Trowa goes to fight the one gundam pilot he feels especially close to, Quatre. The fight ends with Trowa seemingly killed, though in reality he ends up with amnesia. The circus he had been part of had made their way to the colonies, and Catherine found him again. Taking him back into the circus, she did her best to protect him. A new rebel force, called White Fang rises up against Oz, and the gundam pilots are forced back into the fray to protect civilians from both sides. Using a highly experimental computer program called the Zero program, Trowa regained his memories and was able to fight effectively alongside his fellow pilots.

After the wars, Trowa disappeared for a time, reappearing as part of an army led by the patriarch of the Barton family, Dekim Barton. Dekim, an old man by then, has machinations to put his young granddaughter Marimeia on the throne as Queen of all humanity, and has built an army for this purpose. Much like he had during the war, Trowa has infiltrated the army in search of both a purpose and peace. The uprising is crushed almost as quickly as it had begun, leaving Trowa at a loss for what to do with himself. Since his HeavyArms is one of the three remaining gundams that survived the Marimeia Uprising, he joined Duo and Quatre in detonating the mobile suit, ending the age of the gundams for good.

Personality: Trowa has always been the quiet sort, happy to observe and blend into the background. Thanks to Catherine, as well as friends like Quatre and Duo, he’s begun to get a bit more outgoing. His dry wit and sly sarcasm are trademarks, and his excellent poker face makes it hard to know when he’s pulling your leg. He likes it this way.

Key themes: Unafraid to get his hands dirty and more than willing to infiltrate the enemy regardless of any attachments he may otherwise have.

Main Motivation: To find a purpose and a place to fit in the world. Protecting others.

Skills: Hand-to-hand combat training. Firearms training. Handy with a knife. Had skills and knowledge with tech, computers (hacking), communication and computer-based work and piloting gundams, mobile suits and shuttles. Physically, he could have been an olympic level gymnast had his life turned out differently (or a stunning high wire and trapeze performer). Highly skilled in espionage and animal handling.

Item: Clown mask that only covers the right side of his face.

Sample: Chosen from TDM post, Monkey Madness, Team Two:
Having procured a basket of different fruits, Trowa followed a pair of monkeys to a small copse of trees. They weren’t necessarily afraid of him, but his steady advance did have them behaving a bit aggressively. Taking a seat on the ground, Trowa pulled a folding knife from his pocket and began to slice the fruit, starting with a nice ripe Mango. As he cut around the seed pod, he kept his eyes on the monkeys, his expression neutral the entire time. “I bet you’re a little scared now that you’re out of your cage. Being in a cage is never enjoyable, but there is a sense of safety to it, isn’t there?” Trowa scored the flesh of the Mango halves before inverting them, making the newly cut cubes stand up from the skin. Digging into the bottom of the basket, he gently withdrew a large leaf to lay on the ground. One it was covering the dirt, he put the Mangoes on top and then started on another piece of fruit.

Chosen from TDM post, Greenhouse:
The greenhouse car was quiet, but surprisingly well made. Trowa strolled over the grass with a book in his hand, looking for the perfect spot to sit. Up ahead, next to a bush of what looked and smelled like lavender, he sat on the edge of the raised bed and opened his novel. The smell of the flowers behind him was relaxing, and he was almost able to get lost in the story in his hands. It was the quit that stopped him, the absence of any other life forms. Back at Quatre’s gardens, there had always been birds or insects milling around, creating a pleasant white noise. Of course a train would have none of that, but it made the brightly lit carriage feel cold once he’d noticed.

Notes: While he is a bit of an introvert, Trowa does want to make new friends. If you have a pet, or a gadget he can fiddle with (looking at you, Mr Stark), he will be more than happy to come and converse with you.
